Getting Started

This page walks you through the first steps of getting up and running with SMath Studio.

1. Choose your edition

SMath Studio comes in two editions — the public SMath Studio and SMath Studio Enterprise. Which one to install depends on your license:

Not sure which license you have, or need one? See Licensing Types — or continue with the free tier for now and upgrade later.

2. Download and install

Download the recent version of your chosen edition for your platform — see the SMath Studio or SMath Studio Enterprise page for platform-specific download links — and run the installer (or unpack the portable build, if you prefer not to install anything). SMath Studio is available on the following platforms: Windows, Linux, and Cloud.

3. Register or sign in with your SMath account

A free self-registration on smath.com gives you access to SMath services such as online licensing, the plugin gallery, and the Release Manager. See SMath Self-registration for the step-by-step registration process if you don't have an account yet.

4. Get a license

Even the free version of SMath Studio requires a license. When you first log in, a Free license is issued to your account automatically. If your organization has purchased commercial licenses, see Licensing Types for an overview of the available license types, periods, and delivery methods.

5. Open your first document

SMath Studio uses a "paper"-like interface — you place math expressions, text, and plots freely on a worksheet, and the program evaluates them as you type. Explore the built-in examples (Help > Examples...) to get a feel for the interface before starting your own worksheet.
